Expert Witness Seminars

In this session, our speakers, ‘expert witnesses’ (professionals who encounter the issues at stake in the motions as part of their day-to-day work) will present arguments for and against the two debate motions of the day. Following a brief presentation on the topic, students will put questions to the experts, informed by their own research in to the debate motion, and engage them in discussion and debate on the issues at stake.

This will be a wide-ranging session for participants, initially asking the broad question ‘why does debating matter?’ Following a discussion on the political and cultural importance of debate, the session will move on to the chosen theme of the day, cyber-security.

Evening Question Time

‘Question Time’ style Global Uncertainties debate

In the style of the BBC’s Question Time programme, panellists will address a range of questions related to issues such as youth radicalisation, belief and politics, terrorism and civil liberties, surveillance and privacy, as well as broader issues relating to the state of politics in the UK. Students, teachers, parents and other members of the community will be encouraged to put questions to an illustrious panel.
