Brock Road Birchwood Warrington WA3 7PT
“Birchwood Community High School opened in 1985 as a purpose built 11-16 mixed comprehensive and since that time has established itself as a very successful school at the heart of its community and has become key to providing an educated and skilled workforce to suit the local business community. Birchwood is a very successful High School and a leading provider of community and leisure facilities for everyone who lives and works in the area. The school boasts accommodation of a high standard and due to increases in learner numbers has had numerous extensions. There is a commitment to ensuring that all departments have up to date facilities and resources including 29 interactive whiteboards and over 350 PCs, as well as laptop computers and data projectors wherever appropriate. In addition to this we have a sport & leisure centre, a public library and Link Club which provides after school and holiday care for children aged 5-12. The school works with the local business community and we have a Business Resource Centre with conference facilities which opened in September 2003. All these facilities are designed to give maximum support to our learners in their academic study. As one of the first eighteen specialist Business & Enterprise Colleges in the country, we have been able to provide industry standard resources for learners, thus encouraging a professional attitude, and the development of Enterprise capabilities and employability skills in all our learners. We are committed to ensuring that all learners in all departments have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, supporting them to achieve the highest possible standards in every subject. From April 2007 this school was awarded an Applied Learning Specialism which enables all learners to access an even wider curriculum and a range of work related learning opportunities.”
