Braintree Sixth Form
Notley Road Braintree Essex CM7 1WY
“About fifteen years ago the small sixth forms attached to the Braintree secondary schools were closed and the Braintree College was opened to provide post 16 education for the area. Although many students have benefited from the college there have always been a significant number of parents and students who expressed a preference for a school Sixth Form education. In 2005 Notley High School was designated as a High Performing Specialist School and this made it possible for the school to apply to the Learning and Skills Council for 11-18 status. It was decided to set up a Sixth Form for the whole of the Braintree area, rather than just for Notley High School students. A learning partnership was established between Notley High School, Alec Hunter Humanities College, Honywood Community Science School and Tabor Science College. The Sixth Form opened in September 2009, housed in a brand new purpose built centre funded by a grant of £6,000,000 from the Learning and Skills Council.
