For over 150 years, Pfizer has been producing medicines that make a difference to patients’ lives, to their families and to society. We rely on the creativity and innovation of the 6,500 people we employ in the UK to convert basic science into novel and useful medicines, and on an environment which supports science and its application. In the last decade, the company has invested more than £1 billion to maintain our UK laboratories at Sandwich as a world-class facility for the discovery and development of human and animal medicines. In 2004 Pfizer spent more than £4 billion worldwide on the research and development of new medicines for a broad range of diseases. We support Debating Matters because it provides a forum where the scientist and non-scientist can engage in dialogue and debate. Communication is at the heart of progress: communication between scientist and scientist, and particularly between scientist and non-scientist. Debating Matters recognises the importance of engaging a range of young people in debates about how we see the world, and what we want for the future.
