“St Mary’s is a highly successful 11-18 Catholic school with around 900 students on roll. Students come to St Mary’s from a very wide range of primary schools in Newcastle, North Tyneside and beyond. Every year, we also admit some students from overseas. Some parents think that only Catholic children are admitted to St Mary’s. This is not the case. The majority of students are Catholic, from local Catholic primary schools but we also admit many children of all other Faith backgrounds and primary schools whose parents wish them to benefit from an education in a Catholic school setting. Every child who joins St Mary’s, whatever their Faith background or ethnic origin, is welcomed equally into the school and can benefit from an excellent all round education.”

St Mary’s was judged to be an Outstanding school by Ofsted and by the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle in 2009.  Students’ academic achievement, personal development, well being and behaviour were all judged outstanding.  Fewer than 2 out of 10 secondary schools are currently classified as outstanding and so we are proud of our place in a select group of high achieving schools.  Our exam results are consistently high. We have been ranked in the top 2%-3% of all schools in the country and in the north-east for the last three years against a range of examination benchmarks.
