The new French Republic had tried to suppress any interest in this kind of devotion.”

“The Royal Pavilion is an exotic palace in the centre of Brighton with a colourful history. Built as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV, this historic house mixes Regency grandeur with the visual style of India and China. The Royal Pavilion started as a modest 18th century lodging house. Architect Henry Holland helped George, Prince of Wales, transform his humble seaside retreat into a handsome neo-classical villa – known as the Marine Pavilion.

In 1815 George, by now Prince Regent, hired the eminent architect John Nash, to redesign the building in the Indian style. The work was completed in 1823 by which time George had become King. It is this building, an instantly recognisable symbol of Brighton, which we see today.”

Edible Ornamentals

Edible Ornamentals, Cherwood Nursery Blue Bells Bedford MK44 3BL

“From our base here at Cherwood Nursery, in the Bedfordshire hamlet of Chawston, we are commercial growers of chillies, herbs and vegetables. Our product range includes chilli plants, fresh, dried and pickled chillies, along with our own gourmet range of fiery sauces and salsas. Our nursery and restaurant is also a destination for thousands of people participating in our scheduled cookery classes and chilli experiences.  You can find and buy our products right here on our website or at farm shops, delicatessens, farmers markets, food and wine shows, and specialist chilli companies throughout the United Kingdom.

We developed a passion for Mexican and Tex-Mex food while living in San Antonio, Texas in the early 90’s.  In 2001 after moving back to the UK, we began selling chilli plants at local car boot sales, and soon after set up our first production kitchen making a variety of spicy chilli sauces.  We purchased Cherwood Nursery in 2007. Since our arrival we’ve erected six polytunnels, built a log cabin for hosting events, a new commercial kitchen for making chilli sauces, and a café restaurant.  Today, all cooking and growing activities are now consolidated here at Cherwood Nursery and we are open to the public who can come and pick more than 100 varieties of chillies in the PYO poly tunnel, or sit down for a bite to eat in the restaurant.

We’re passionate about chilli peppers, gardening, and great food and we enjoy hearing your gardening and cooking ideas and experiences.”
