07 Mar 2018: Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium win biggest ever Debating Matters Berlin
Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium crowned winners after hard-fought day of debate
Congratulations to Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium who survived the largest Debating Matters Berlin event to date be crowned Champions 2018 produced in partnership with Freiblickinstitut and hosted by University of Applied Sciences Europe, Berlin on Wednesday 28 February.
Having competed in Debating Matters in all three iteration in Berlin, students from Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium were delighted to lift the trophy having impressed judges with their astute arguments and consummate research throughout the day. Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium won debates in the group stages arguing we shouldn’t fear medical record sharing and that we should tear down controversial monuments. That put them through to face Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium in the semi-final, arguing that a basic income is a solution to our societal problams. The final proved a close affair with Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium battling Leibniz-Schule on the issue of populism. After a fine debate, with fantastic contributions from schools in the audience, the judges announced Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium the winners.
Though only one team could be overall winners, all the competing schools made interesting and provocative points from the floor throughout the day. Robin from Wilma-Rudolph-Oberschule particularly impressed the judges and was awarded the prize of Best Individual on the day.
Debating Matters and Freiblickinstitut would like to thank all 12 competing schools and their teachers:Leibniz-Schule Berlin, Nelson-Mandela-Schule, Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium, Wilma-Rudolph-Oberschule, Humboldt-Gymnasium, Willi-Graf-Gymnasium, Anna-Essinger-Gemeinschaftsschule, Eckener-Gymnasium, Schadow-Gymnasium, Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium, Bertha-von-Suttner-Gymnasium, and Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium.
