02 Sep 2010: Qualifying Rounds 2010/11 - debate motions now available!

Qualifying Round Topic Guides launched - the best place to begin your research

Topic guides for the Debating Matters 2010/11 Qualifying Rounds are now available to view and download from the Debating Matters website.

Following a summer of writing, researching and debating of our own, the DM team have chosen seven contemporary political, scientific and cultural issues for students to debate at the 2010/11 Qualifying Rounds.

With debates on the role of the monarchy in contemporary British society, whether some groups and their ideas should be banned from universities, if financial incentives should be introduced to encourage increased organ donation - and more - we anticipate some lively (and using the acclaimed Debating Matters Topic Guides, well researched) arguments!

Access each of the 2010/11 Qualifying Rounds Topic Guides and motions below:

Extremism on Campus: “Extremist religious and political groups should be banned from university campuses”
Genetic Screening: “Genetic screening of embryos should be celebrated, not feared”
Monarchy: “An unelected head of state should have no place in 21st century Britain”
Organ & Tissue Donation: “Financial incentives provide the best solution to the crisis of organ and tissue donation”
Privacy Online: “We should not expect our online activities to remain private”
Scepticism & Science: “Scepticism is crucial to debates about climate change”
Sportspeople as role models: “Sportspeople should act as role models”

You can also see exactly what debates will be discussed, by which schools, on which side or the argument, at all 48 Qualifying Rounds by using the Qualifying Round selector tool.
