15 Feb 2010: The Battle for Politics Pre Election Public Summit

Students invited to Battle for Politics election summit in London, 20 March 2010

The Battle for Politics is a one-day conference to debate the significance of the UK general election and set an alternative political agenda. The event is organised by the Institute of Ideas, who established Debating Matters as a national competition in 2004.

Dolan Cummings, convenor of the conference, says of the event:

“Sessions will examine the wider political context of this election, bring some historical perspective to the debate, and consider the prospects for the future, as well as taking a critical approach to particular policy areas. From taboo issues like immigration and welfare reform to rarely-criticised trends like the politics of behaviour and the increasing role of ‘experts’ in making policy, this event will put a premium on open and robust argument instead of the cowardly whispers, hints and unquestioned assumptions that too often pass for political debate.”

The conference takes place on Saturday 20 March 2010 at Goodenough College, London.

Debating Matters students are invited to come along and challenge and be challenged by top speakers from the worlds of politics, the media and public life. To allow students to participate in this event there is a specially discounted ticket price of just £10 – tickets can be booked online now. Group booking discounts are available by calling Geoff Kidder on 020 7269 9224 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) him.
