    Adam grew up in south Devon and studied Zoology at Cambridge before moving to Sheffield to study ants, wasps and bees for his PhD. He spent seven years there, moving on to post-doctoral research before becoming a lecturer. He moved to a permanent position in the University of Gloucestershire, where is now a reader in Science Communication and teaches on a wide range of biological subjects, including animal behaviour and experimental design. He is an active researcher, working chiefly with insects although he also works on birds and other animals. He is widely involved with outreach and public engagement and in 2010 he was named the Society of Biology’s Science Communicator of the Year. He can be heard on BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Saturday show, where he answers general science questions from the listening public and presents science news.
