Alastair studied Arabic at Cambridge and lectured in Tunisia and Turkey before returning to the UK to work in various administration and management posts in higher education. He was Head of Policy Communications and Membership at the Royal Society of Public Health and Chief Executive of the Institute of Conservation before taking up his present post at the Landscape Institute in 2008.
