Alistair has been at DMU (and Leicester Polytechnic) for 25 years, where he is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Politics and Public Policy and a University Teacher Fellow. He is also a visiting lecturer at Liaoning University, Shenyang and a visiting Erasmus lecturer at the Charles University in Prague. He has published books on British Politics, one of which updated in 2015 (“Contemporary British Politics and Government”, fourth edition); and on the European Union, one of which was updated in 2016 (“Britain and the European Union”, second edition). Alistair is also part of the Councillor Commission, which is looking into the role and function of councillors, and the structure of local councils in England. He is BBC Radio Leicester’s “Politics Pundit”, being on air frequently as a commentator and analyst on British Politics, especially at election time. Many other media outlets utilise his knowledge, including the Leicester Mercury, Reuters, The Times, Mainichi Shimbun (a Japanese newspaper), Radio 5, and various other regional radio stations. He has also appeared on television: East Midlands Today, The Politics Show, and The Big Questions. Alistair writes for the “Huffington Post blog” as well.
