BroomDr Ashley Broom
Ashley currently works as a post-doctoral scientist in the division of drug safety assessment at GlaxoSmithKline. He is a recent PhD graduate of Imperial College London’s prestigious Department of Medicine where he researched mechanisms of cell dysfunction relating to drug-induced perturbation of mitochondrial function. His PhD included a secondment to GSK sites in the US where he led teams of scientists performing tailored drug-safety studies. Ashley is currently in the process of publishing his findings from his doctoral research. Previously he attended the University of the West of England and gained a first class honours degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and graduated with the Chris Hunter Memorial Prize for academic excellence. His degree also included a one-year industrial placement with GlaxoSmithKline where he investigated the off-target and immunostimulatory safety liabilities of small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutics. Away from work Ashley has a keen interest in golf!
