  • Professor Barry Richards

    Bournemouth University

    After an initial training in clinical psychology, Barry has been an academic at the University of East London, where he was Professor of Human Relations, and, since 2001, at Bournemouth University. He has taught and researched in a number of fields, including popular culture, advertising, and politics. He is interested in how our individual psychologies interact with our social environments. His most recent book (Emotional Governance, 2007) is a study of emotion in politics, especially in relation to extremism. He believes that the quality of speaking and writing in public debates of all sorts is vital to the health of democracy and of civic culture.
