  • Dr Hazel McHaffie

Novelist and Former Deputy Director of Research, Institute of Medical Ethics

After many years in clinical practice as a nurse and midwife, Dr McHaffie studied for a PhD and specialised in medical ethics. She published widely, winning the British Medical Book of the Year award in 2002. She now writes novels. Six have already been published, all exploring the big questions in medicine today: things like, Should we help people to die? Should anyone and everyone be permitted to have babies? Who should decide for patients who are unable to choose for themselves? She also writes a weekly blog, VelvetEthics, and loves to be challenged to think again.
