    Reader in Landscape Architecture

    Ian is Reader in Landscape Architecture at Newcastle University. In addition to a B.Phil and a PhD in landscape architecture, he holds a BA in Philosophy and an MA in Photography. In the 1980s he was a practising landscape architect. From 1986-92 he worked for Gateshead MBC and was one of the team working on the site of the National Garden Festival in Dunston (1990). He is the author of several books, including ‘The Sun King’s Garden’ (2006) an account of the creation of the gardens at Versailles for Louis XIV, and ‘The English Lakes, A History’ (2010) a narrative cultural history of the Lake District. Most recently he wrote ‘Landscape Architecture: A Very Short Introduction’ for Oxford University Press.
