formerly with the UK Medical Research Council
John trained in Organic Chemistry at Sydney and Australia National University before coming to the UK in 1971 for post-doctoral research. He joined the MRC in Edinburgh in 1976 and transferred to NIMR in 2006, where his research was focused on development of small-molecule tools to probe aspects of rapid biological processes, particularly muscle contraction and nerve transmission. John’s lifetime output is represented by 145 published papers and several granted patents, three of which are licensed to bioscience companies and result in significant wealth generation.
