Executive Vice President, Global Head of Strategy and Business Development
John was a member of the International Management Committee of Statoil from 2002 until he assumed his current role on the Executive Committee of Statoil ASA as head of Global Strategy and Business Development in January 2011. He has had a central role in the company’s recent expansion internationally especially in entering joint ventures and acquisitions in Algeria, Brazil, Canada and the United States and as a member of the transition committee during the merger of Statoil and the oil and gas division of Norsk Hydro in 2007. He is a graduate in English law from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University and is an English barrister of The Middle Temple. Prior to joining Statoil he was a barrister in private practice and subsequently held positions in law and energy investment banking at Shell International Petroleum, Chase Manhattan Bank, Union Bank of Switzerland and Salomon Brothers.
