  • Dr Ken McLaughlin

    Senior Lecturer in Social Work

    Manchester Metropolitan University

Ken co-ordinates modules on sociology and mental health at Manchester Metropolitan University and is concerned with the way in which societal problems are increasingly viewed through a therapeutic gaze. His book ‘Social Work Politics and Society: From radicalism to orthodoxy’ (2008, Policy Press) highlighted the authoritarian consequences of the ‘therapeutic turn’ in contemporary political life, with particular focus on social policy development and social work practice. His work has appeared in a number of professional journals including the British Journal of Social Work and Critical Social Policy and in the online current affairs magazine spiked.
