LavelleDr Marie Lavelle
Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies
Plymouth Institute of Education, Plymouth University
Whilst a sociologist at heart and teaching in education, Marie’s background is in health and social care. Her experiences as both a midwife in one of the most disadvantaged areas of the country, and her work with the national charity Home-Start underpins a research philosophy with a strong sense of social justice. Her research focuses on social policy and family life. Past published research has explored the role of state in family life with a focus on Sure Start Children’s Centres. Encouraging argument and debate is something she strives for in her work with students and is very pleased to be part of debating matters.
