Society of Biology
Mark has been the Chief Executive of the Society of Biology, a professional body representing over 80,000 life scientists, since 2009. Previously he spent 5 years as the Executive Director for Science and Enterprise at Deafness charity, RNID. From 2000 to 2004 he was the UK’s lead official for negotiating a range of EU environmental legislation in Brussels, having previously worked in the Diplomatic Service where he was stationed in Tokyo as First Secretary for Trade Policy with responsibility for all UK-Japan trade relations. Earlier in his career, Mark managed and undertook biosensor research. He has a PhD from Cranfield University where he worked on the development of DNA sensors for rapid gene identification and a BSc in Biotechnology from the University of London. He attended Chatham House Grammar School in Ramsgate from 1974 - 1981
