Royal Society of Medicine
Sir Michael is the current president of the Royal Society of Medicine and an honorary professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He also chairs the Eastern Academic Health Sciences Network and UK Biobank. He was professor of clinical pharmacology at Newcastle University, and physician at the Freeman Hospital, from 1973 to 2006. Sir Michael was also the founding chair of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence from 1999 to 2013.
