Mike is doing a degree in Criminology and Sociology at the University of Kent (2008-2011) and is a former competitor in the Debating Matters competition. Outside of academic interest Mike is interested in a variety of sports and also plays bass guitar in a function band in East Kent (also chipping in with backing vocals - not always in tune!). Mike has had continued involvement with Debating Matters since he left school because he believes it is a great format for effectively raising awareness of topical issues, as well as the need for informed public debate. In addition, the quality of debates appears to improve year upon year meaning that maintaining a high level of enthusiasm for the competition has always been easy.
