  • Dr Mike Sutton

    Retired Director of Trade and Industry, Government Office for the West Midlands

    Mike attended Edinburgh University from 1961-68: completing a BSc and PhD in chemistry, followed by a post doctoral fellowship at Kent. He then went on to become a Research scientist at Warren Spring Laboratory and was eventually made Deputy Director in 1985. He then went on to develop various policy areas in the Department of Trade and Industry, ranging from shipbuilding and engineering to the Single European Market. In 1994, he moved to Birmingham to be Director of Trade and Industry in the Government Office of the West Midlands, eventually retiring from Civil Service in 1999. Mike then went to University of Warwick as a principal research fellow in the Warwick Manufacturing Group until final retirement in 2003.
