  • Peter Smith

    Director of Tourism & Tourism Management

    St. Mary’s University College

    Peter is currently undertaking research into the sociology of volunteer and eco- tourism, with particular emphasis on the perceptions of development within the alternative tourism sector. Prior to his appointment at St Mary’s in 2005 he was the Customer Relations Manager for STA Travel, the UK’s leading student/youth travel agency. At STA Travel Peter was responsible for the company’s national customer relations strategy. He regularly appears in the media and at public events discussing travel, tourism and mobility related issues, has been interviewed for Radio 4 ‘The World Tonight’ and presented an opinion piece on BBC London television news. He has spoken at and participated in debates for a range of organisations including: the Royal Institute of British Architects, The Cheltenham Science Festival, University of Brighton, London Metropolitan University, Spiked online, Clarke Mulder Purdie and the Battle of Ideas.
