  • Ralph Leighton

    Principal Lecturer in Education

    Canterbury Christ Church University

Born and raised in Glasgow, Ralph has lived and taught in Kent for 30 years. He has been involved in Debating Matters since its inception and, such is his limited social life, these debates are amongst the highlights of Ralph’s year. Particularly interested in Citizenship Education and active participation, he regards this competition as an ideal way for school students to develop the essential skills of constructing and dismantling informed and reasoned arguments and says as much in his forthcoming book on teaching citizenship education. His main research interests relate to the traditions of radical education and to contrasting interpretations of citizenship. Ralph tempers the disappointment which inevitably comes from his continuing affection for both Glasgow Rangers and Arsenal football clubs with enthusiastic vocal support for Hythe Town FC.
