Student & DM Alumnus
University of St. Andrews
Robert is a third year International Relations student at St Andrews -interested in emerging securities and counter-terrorism. At university he’s the vice-president of the Amnesty Society, external speakers convenor for LGBT society, helps organise the annual charity hitchhike, and writes political ramblings for the student newspaper. First competed in Debating Matters four years ago, and was lucky enough to make it to the NI / Scottish final twice. The 2011 competition was his first time in Scotland, and that was enough was convince him to move to this lovely country for university - so he has a lot to thank the Institute of Ideas for! Despite having no theatrical talent he’s spending the summer working at the fringe festival, and is currently torn between applying for postgraduate opportunities or entering the ‘real world’ of work - although his parents would prefer the latter.
