Retired, former Australian diplomat and ambassador
Robert retired from the Australian Foreign Service in 2001 after some 30 years as a diplomat. He served in Beirut, Kenya, Pakistan, Brussels and Mexico where he was Australian Ambassador to Mexico as well as to Cuba and the countries of Central America. Earlier, in Canberra, Robert worked in the Foreign Affairs Policy Planning area, as Private Secretary to the Foreign Minister and as Head of the Australian consular Service.Since he left the Foreign Service Robert has had a ‘portfolio’ career. Inter alia, he established and ran his consultancy, Austral-Asia, was Director of the Mexican not-for-profit Casa Alianza, was President of the Board of Bicycle NSW and also served on the Board of The Centre for Middle East and North African Studies at Macquarie University. Robert moved to the UK with his wife, an academic, in 2009 and has settled in Bath where she currently holds a senior position.
