NettletonProfessor Sarah Nettleton
Professor of Sociology
University of York
After graduating in Social Studies from the University of Newcastle in 1982, Sarah spent some time unemployed before working as a ‘researcher’ at Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage in the Lake District - the area in which she had spent the first eighteen years of my life. Following this she studied at the University of London, and carried on living and working in London for eight years working for local housing authorities, health authorities and then the University before returning to Newcastle to take up a permanent lectureship at the Polytechnic (as it then was). Sarah moved to the University of York initially working in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work at York and then the Department of Sociology at York. She lives in York and has two children – one studies at Fulford School and the other at the University of Durham.
