PEOPLE

  • Shyama Perera

    Writer & Broadcaster

Shyama was writing music reviews for the NME while still at school and cut loose at 16 with the ambition of being a reporter joining The Guardian’s Home News staff aged 23. She then moved into broadcasting, presenting on TV and radio, before becoming a freelance to raise her two fantastic daughters single-handedly. She is the author of three novels, a history of contraception, numerous short stories and essays, and a short play. She still appears on late night TV and radio as a social commentator, teaches writing and literary criticism to adults, and helps medium sized organisations with internal and external communications. She has two blogs, one on literary criticism and the other celebrating a late life passion: theatre. They are:  tricyclereaders.com and monkeymatterstheatre.com
