Simon manages a team of youth work staff for a Scottish local authority and has recently started supervising and assessing Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions.
He completed his PhD thesis on ‘The Role Played by Childhood Freedom and Licence in Developing Selfhood’ in 2015 and is currently working it up into a book.
He is on the Board of Play Scotland and champions unsupervised free play whenever possible.
He also leads a Beaver Colony for the Scouts on Glasgow’s South Side.
Simon enjoys open water swimming and organises fund raising swims for the RNLI.
In what little spare time remains, Simon works in his garden, growing vegetables, building dens and climbing frames and chasing his twelve-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter about.
