Prior to coming to joining UCL, Vanesa worked as a researcher at Durham University in Forest Research. She has a doctorate from the University of Surrey and degrees from Wageningen University, in The Netherlands and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in Spain. Vanesa’s research is concerned with fostering progressive change to achieve socially and environmentally just cities. Her research has engaged with comparative analyses of urbanisation and innovation in different cities around the world, including in Bosnia and Herzegovina, India, Mexico and Mozambique. She is co-editor of the book ‘Cities and Low Carbon Transitions’ and co-authored one of the chapters in the ‘UN-Habitat Global Report on Human Settlements on Cities and Climate Change’. Vanesa has published on climate change, urbanisation and environmental justice.
